The Picanto engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission, fitted with a cable clutch for smooth, effortless shifting and optimum gear ratios that suit a wide range of driving conditions. The automatic transmission option is also available and has been designed with smart electronics to finely control the supply of oil to allow more effective changes of speed and reduced engine noise. The modern body structure is extremely strong, with reinforcement steel located at strategic points and side impact protection within the doors. Vented front disc brakes are fade-free and standard on all models. Within the cabin the occupants are protected by comprehensive airbags, with dual front airbags which inflate in a frontal collision, and optional side airbags for protecting the head and thorax in the event of a side impact.
